Pieter Van de Plas (ca.1590-1661), was a Dutch Golden Age painter.

Biography

According to Houbraken, who copied his comments from Cornelis de Bie, Pieter Van de Plas was a Dutch painter whose works survived the Beeldenstorm because of his extraordinary talent.[1]

According to the RKD, his works are often confused with a painter P V Plas from Alkmaar.[2] His works are signed with the monogram "PVP".[3] Though his birth and death dates are uncertain, he was born no earlier than 1585, according to the RKD, which makes De Bie's comment in reference to the Beeldenstaorm of 1568 very confusing. Perhaps he had a father of the same name who was a painter of religious scenes for churches and cloisters.
